Now's your chance! The Oahu chapter of the Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers (HTFG) will be focusing on grafting together at our second 2018 meeting. We'll be generously hosted by Mark Suiso at Makaha Mangoes, and will also be enjoying a farm tour.

Please bring your own potted rootstock (avocado or mango), or you can buy one from us for $5. We'll learn to collect mango scions, and will get a quick lesson in grafting technique, then we will help each other graft, workshop style. I know we have a lot of knowledge out there - please come ready to make new fruity friends and share your grafting know-how with each other.

Please bring if you can:
  • Grafting knives/tools
  • Parafilm/Grafting wax tape
  • Extra mango or avo rootstock to share
  • Mango/avo scions to share
  • Snacks to share (especially fruit!!)

Makaha Mangoes and The Moana Surf-Rider are partnering once again to bring you the greatest Mango Festival around.  Every year it gets better and better (as if that is even possible), and this year promises to be no disappointment. There will be the  Ultimate Mango Throwdown, Live performance by local artist Sean Na'auao, and every one's favorite: The Best Mango Contest.  There will also be a Farmers Market, pop-up Bakeshop, Silent Auction benefiting the Kapiolani Community College Culinary Arts Program, as well as engaging seminars for mango growing enthusiast, and cooking demonstrations.  For more info click here

  • Mango Throwdown: featuring local celebrity chefs in a friendly cooking competition using mango as the main ingredient. Guests are welcome to taste each chef's creation for $6 per script.
  • Mango Cocktail Mixdown: will showcase the talents of cocktail enthusiasts and professional mixologists using mango as the featured ingredient in a mixed drink.
  • Mango cooking demonstrations: by the Moana's own Chef de Cuisine David Lukela and Executive Pastry Chef Nanako Perez-Nava.
  • Mango Farmer's Market: featuring unique mango inspired products and a variety of mango food products.  Talk story with farmers and learn how fresh ripe mangoes are grown.
  • Silent Auction: to benefit the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiolani Community

Makaha Mangoes is teaming up with da Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts to be part of a multi-day festival celebrating the world's most perfect fruit!  

There will be food, crafts, live entertainment and more - all centered around mangoes! Yes, even a beer garden with mango beer and a farmers market to buy your favorite fruit.

Time and Date: Friday, July 22, 4:30 pm - 10 pm / Saturday, July 23, 10 am - 10 pm. 
Location: Frank F. Fasi Civic Center at Honolulu Hale

Even though it was a tough season for mangoes on Oahu, we had great co-op farmer connections come through for us and still had enough great mangoes to supplement our offerings. We had pickled and cut mango for sale, along with plenty whole mango to take home.  We also had a our signature logo items for sale too.  The chefs and bartenders delivered as usual, with wonderful, unique, mango themed dishes and drinks. It was amazing!
